OKAY BRAINIACS!

After putting off doing blood Dr. Green requested for over a month, and going without fasting, what do these results indicate.

 

1) heavy smoker

2) Whiskey drinker

3) No breakfast. avocado with cheese for lunch

4) steak for dinner

5) bowl of ice cream - late night snack

6) 1,000 to 1,500 calories burned on treadmill, daily

    How old are you? Your diet is negatively impacting your cholesterol and blood glucose. Your Hematocrit is midway between the reference range but higher is better. The bad numbers are highlighted with the H - I'm guessing for High and accompanied by explanations. High blood glucose is bad for anti-aging. rajeun.net says we have a fixed number of glucose "units". I disagree with this. I think if you keep it below 90 mg/dL, you'll grow younger.

      Michael 52 and with a Hematocrit # of 44.2% in the range of 38.5 - 50.0 that puts you in the 50 percentile of age range 56-61. Remember that this number may be normalcy biased. rajeun.net doesn't compromise on this number because low Oxygen will kill brain cells. Too high is not good either as it can cause stroke. NAD+ is exercise in a pill but physical exercise releases beneficial hormones so it's not a substitute. But 2 hours of high impact activity on a treadmill doesn't sound good to me. Exercise depletes essential nutrients/minerals in the body and can cause a massive heart attack. I'd eat fewer calories and do less exercise, not indulging and working it off. Don't mean to scare you or anything but that sort of exercise should be limited to short term. For long term weight management, use NMN/NR + watching TV and moderate exercise, and eat standard 2000 calories.

      Chan I appreciate the additional information, Chan. I really do. The thing is I NEED the exercise: mentally.

      I used to 'run' 8 miles a day in my 20's/30's. Now I walk/treadmill roughly 10 miles slowly - typically equates to 1K to 1,500 calories a day.

      I used to be a competitive power lifter, I used to be a drummer: constant burning of calories.  Since 47, I've started looking and feeling old. At 50 I used the following products for one full year:

      Michael With no discernible positive effect. 

       

      Since February of 2020, I began exercising and eating once a day for the first time since I turned 40. I look 100 times better and stopped the supplements. I'm ready to quit smoking - I HAVE to quit - because of forth coming, elective surgery.  While longevity is a focus, the immediate focus is correcting the decades of wear and tear smoking have produced. 

      Goals:

      1) Aesthetic (I know, I'm shallow)

      2) Longevity

      Michael d Cardiorespiratory fitness is the ONLY proven lifespan extension proven in humans. Anyone who tells you to stop exercising is very ill informed on fitness/pro longevity research. There are literally thousands of longitudinal studies showing the reduction  in all cause mortality with superior physical fitness. Supplements and most all meds l, none have been proven to extend lifespan. I run/spin 100km/week and do daily resistance training. Ive lost 50 lbs and am super fit cardio and muscular. I’ve done coronary calcium scans, inclined treadmill 22 min test, heart is fine. Under the care of a doctor. So keep on exercising until your last breath if you can!

      MAC All I know is exercise works. It worked for me in my 20s/30's and it's working for me in my 50's after smoking for 35+ years. Enough long distance and there's so little body fat I'm literally cold everywhere I go.

      Michael With you brother. Ditch the smokes, very moderate drinking (red wine if you can tilt), whole foods diet. Load up on vitamin D. Sounds like your lean and fit and are far away from metabolic syndrome = cardio vascular disease. Your Cardio risk factors seem low. Your blood sugar seems excellent. If you’re worried about the state of your heart, get a coronary calcium scan. Pretty low cost, peace of mind.

      I am 55, and in excellent shape...I want to be in even BETTER shape at 70, building a physical/cardio base for long term health.

          You need to watch Bill Faloons 2020 RaadFest keynote address.  You have to get the basics right first before doing anything else.  IMHO, you are wasting your time and money on anti-aging while you are a "heavy smoker", a "whiskey drinker", "late night snack - bowl of ice cream".  You need to be eating platefuls of vegetables and fruits and limiting your eating window.  Your self destructive lifestyle will overwhelm any anti-aging measures in the meantime.

    Put your numbers in   @JGC 's  spreadsheet you will see that your biology age is almost identical to your chronological age. If you can lower your glucose, MCV and RDW, you will see a big drop on your biology age.

    Your weight and BMI? Blood pressure? Resting heart rate? Body fat?

    From a CVD point of view, your TG/HDL is <<2, which is excellent re atherogenic small LDL-P. Your remnant cholesterol (converted to mmol/L) which is TC-LDL-HDL is 0.52 which is 1st quartile (low) re risk. Burning 1000+ calories/day on a treadmill is a good cardio workout...what heart range do you get into? Getting into a high enough beats per minute (BPM) is CRUCIAL to cardiovascular remodelling.

    Re your glucose, your hbA1c of 5.0 is EXCELLENT and trumps any sporadic, non fasted glucose reading. If you're lean and low body fit with an hbA1c of 5, I wouldn't think you're insulin resistant or have metabolic syndrome.

    Of course the smoking and drinking will eventually kill you, but right now, your heart health seems excellent.

      MAC Thank you for your insight. As well as everyone on the forum! I should have said I don't eat a bowl of ice cream every night :) But, I've been wondering about the wisdom of only eating 1 avocado for lunch and one steak for dinner - roughly 4 hours later. It SEEMS like intermittent fasting - to me:)

    Not sure if you're keto, depends on the % protein in your total calories...but you're so close to OMAD (one meal a day), make your food prep life easier, go for it! I am strict keto, OMAD (one meal a day, dinner).

      kryston muer Been eating lots of protein and fats to bulk up (lifting lots of weights). I'm about to begin serious cardio again.

    According to traditional medical dogma, smoking is the worst enemy of mankind.

    But the story is full of examples of drastic changes in medical recommendations. In the past, many diseases have been treated with large amounts of mercury :) There are already studies that say smoking is useful in some senile diseases.
