DNA Methylation Testing Recommendations Sought

I'm planning to get my DNA Methylation tested. Any recommendations as to a particular company? If you recommend one over the other...why?

Thanks

Randy

  • I would recommend the EpiAging USA DNA test kit for the following reasons:

Using DNA methylation, we provide a DNA test kit to reveal your biological age, that is:

    • non-invasive
    • authentic
    • affordable

Many people have taken this test, and were very happy with the accurate and simple process in which they discovered their real biological age; which may reflect on longevity. The results enabled them to implement personal lifestyle changes. Additionally, others have used this method to monitor the success of interventions taken.

  • Used DNAmyage was very dissatisfied as they lost my sample

epiagingusa did a fast turnaround and results matched Levine calculators

    • Paul Beauchemin I was not happy with https://www.mydnage.com/ because they ask your age. Thats an open invitation to dry lab results.

    • Paul Beauchemin Thank you. This is an important piece of information. Will get mine done in the near future and let all know. Per Fred's comment, I am 80 with a Levine DNA calculator of 71. Let's see what happens.

    • Jim  Jim I used EpiAging and my chronological age  for individuals with my epigenetic age was 58.7. I had just turned 80 yo at the time. It is my understanding that epigenetics is in large part driven by inflammation. In this regard I take 8 Natures Bounty 1.4 grams fish oil capsules/day for the past 25 years which provides about 5.5 grams of EPA and DHA. My IL-6 is always below detect when I had it measured.  I have no arthritis or joint pain at this time.

Based on blood samples taken at the same time and for comparison,  my Levin Ptypic Age was 73.61  and my Levin est DNAm Age was 71.44. My AI 2.0 and AI 3.0 age estimates were 66 and 56 respectively.

Note that I am firm believer in "antiageing" and multiple health benefits of of fish oil, and you do not see any significant discussion of this topic on this  on this forum.

    • Peter H. Howe Wow, that is alot. Have you ever checked your blood omega 6:3 ratio? The only downside to fish oil is that it is very unstable and consumes alot of vitamin E. If you deplete your fat solube antioxidants, fish oil can turn from beneficial to harmful. What kind of antioxidants do you take to prevent vitamin E deficiency?

    • Fred Cloud Fred my 6/3  and AA/EPA ratios are 2.9:1 and 2.8:1, respectively. Both are slightly higher than optimum but are still very good. I eat a lot of nuts and accordingly consume  a little more 6's than I should. Get a lot of Vit E from nuts and supplement with tocotrinols.

I do not think this is "a lot" in my case. I had emergency bypass surgery almost thirty years ago, and adjusted my fish oil to minimize my need for statins.   Fish oil is very effective in lowering triglycerides and optimizing my triglyceride/HDL ratios which I consider to be the most important biomarker in monitoring cardiovascular risk. There are multiple peer reviewed studies that document value of fish oil in optimizing LDL particle number and size.

I followed the advice of a Dr. Davis a cardiologist at that time and Barry Sears in reaching this decision . So far this approach has been productive.

I also use hormone replacement therapy to increase my total T, DHEA , progesterone ( yes that's right) and pregnenolone to offset the impact of statins. Lowering cholesterol will lower one's steroid hormones.

However, I would be be dead without my statin. Ischemic heart attacks are pervasive in my family.

Hope this explains my personal position in what stimulates me to use this level of fish oil.
