Honokiol for age retardation

Every year in September, I research what products to investigate for pro-youthening next year. It seems to me that honokiol is worth a try. I am getting the TruAge test done soon (bought the four annual tests) to see if it makes any difference. I have recently been using honokiol and found that I have more energy and generally feel more positive (although this could be due to cold showers and red light panel). I have used it for three months (capsule form, no additives).

I quickly asked ChatGPT for the anti-aging benefits just so that I could post them here:

I searched for honokiol on this site before posting this but excuse me if this has already been discussed.

  • Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Effects – Honokiol reduces oxidative stress and inflammation, both major contributors to aging. By neutralizing free radicals, it helps protect cells from damage that accelerates aging.

  • Neuroprotective Benefits – Honokiol has shown promise in protecting brain cells, potentially helping to prevent cognitive decline and neurodegenerative diseases, which are linked to aging.

  • Mitochondrial Health – It supports mitochondrial function, essential for energy production and cellular longevity. Healthy mitochondria are crucial for slowing the aging process at the cellular level.

  • Anti-Cancer Effects – Honokiol has demonstrated anti-cancer properties, which could contribute to longevity by reducing the risk of age-related cancers.

    Refs:

  • Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Effects:

    • A study published in Phytomedicine showed that honokiol exhibits strong antioxidant activity, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in various tissues. It was found to protect against oxidative damage and inflammation, both critical factors in aging processes .
  • Neuroprotective Benefits:

    • Honokiol has demonstrated neuroprotective properties by preventing neuronal damage and promoting cognitive function. A study in Neurochemical Research found that honokiol protected neurons from oxidative stress-induced apoptosis, suggesting its potential to help prevent neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s .
  • Mitochondrial Health:

    • Research published in Free Radical Biology and Medicine demonstrated that honokiol improves mitochondrial function by reducing mitochondrial oxidative stress and enhancing energy production. Improved mitochondrial health is essential for slowing cellular aging .
  • These studies reflect honokiol's broad potential in anti-aging due to its effects on inflammation, oxidative stress, neuroprotection, and cellular health.

  • Anti-Cancer Effects:

    • Honokiol’s anti-cancer properties have been widely studied. A review in Cancer Letters highlighted its ability to inhibit tumor growth, induce apoptosis in cancer cells, and reduce metastasis. These effects could help reduce the risk of cancer, a major concern as we age .

  • Thanks!  Any source that you recommend?   These plant extract's efficacy is usually dependant on the extraction method and concentration.  Just magnolia bark comes up for my searching.

My adventure and latest practices are into peptides.  Re your above benefits I'll mention:

    Mitocondria:  SS-31 + MOTS-C

    Brain/BDNF:   Celebroliasin, Tesophensin,  Semax, Selank.

Anti oxidant;  BPC-157  add in TB-500 and this combo is joint restoritive

add in GHK-cu and you have general restoration.

The current (latest) weight loss is the dual agonist;  Terzepatide.

The age reversals are the Thymus/pituitary combos:  pinealon, thymulin, thymusin a1, epitialon (might reverse telomere shortening).

==== All of this is right up our DIY self experimentation alley, although prescriptions can be filled at taylor made compounding.  Otherwise DIYers buy experimental sources from:  polarispeptides, simplepeptides,  corepeptides, needles and BAC water off amazon.

Its expensive!!!  even via experimental sources.  Experimental is just a buz word needed to not trip up the FDA.  These peptide sources 3rd party test and offer COAs and bottles are batch numbered.

FWIW;  peptides generally are much like Chinese medicine (TCM) in that they are "nudges" to the body/organs using synthetic versions of natural (but fallen off) body's signaling proteins/enzymes.

The lesser strength cousins to peptidees are Bio-regulators which are effective and even slower acting.   Same idea;  a few months on, a few to 6 mo off.  Basically forever much like peptides, forever, much like rapa forever.  $$$$$

The GLP-1's, terzepatide is amazing.  I'm at my ideal weight, BMI, composition (% muscle) yet I micro dose terzepatide for the brain, insulin sensitivity, glucose regulation positive side effects of terzepatide (but not semaglutide).     The NEXT in line 3x receptor site GLP-1 is Retagrutide (??).  Mainly in the experimentors circles.  Not yet into main stream is even better then  terzepatide.

Its all in youtube videos;   join channels:   Jay Campbell,  Hunter Williams,  Active Steve for the latest in peptides.

    Good luck, curt

Curtis, thanks so much for this information and so much of it! I'm onto it. I have been looking at peptides but not closely enough to make a commitment yet. Woo!

Jay, I buy it from MCS Formulas in the Netherlands, which specialises in effective dose single source products with no fillers. The capsules are tiny compared with the ones packed with flow agents etc.  They ship extremely fast with Fedex to most countries and certainly I get my products from them faster than when I order them from the US. I am in Canada and received mine in five days (along with a few other supplements to take advantage of the free shipping). I think that if you live in the US, the amount needed to receive free shipping is less and they may arrive faster.

Much like Hansen (somewhere near the neatherlands) https://www.hansensupplements.com

    and donotage https://donotage.org

High quality, trusted sources, 3rd party tested...

    tnx

I agree with the noticable benefits of both of these.  We put a vibration plate infront of our LED panels, to multi task (treat).  Vibration + LED.   Vibration plate is a very cheap yet high value addition to daily health things IMHO.

A much higher cost item we added was a soft sided (1.3ATA) hyberbaric chamber.  Ours is big enought to put a chair in and sit up.  I do all my morning computer work, and PEMF (flex pulse g2).   If you have joint soreness I give high value to the FLex pulse g2.

We've just added yet another device, the kaatsu c4 arm/leg comression band device.  Info on youtube.  The pulsating compression bands stimulate plasmologins, muscle growth from just sitting use.  Add light squates and arm weights and you get a serious exercise benefit without going to the gym AND you can do this while doing computer work, standing infront of the LED/or HBOT chamber etc..   Or do PEMF at the same time as the kaatsu..   :)

Yes its all alot of money.  I can give a recommendation to these devices do work.  I have the PEMF on now for a sorish back.   I need to take peptides;  BPC-157 + TB-500 +GHK-cu to knock it down to zero pain along with the knees in a few.   Just tersely re joints;  keeping glucose/insulin low and verify via a CGM, and protein and collagen high.

    Good luck, curt

I have been looking at those Kaatsu bands. I am an avid weight trainer and they make sense to me.

  • The device and bands are very well made.  We  bought the unit with a separate unit, not the wifi/blue tooth newer version.   Both of us keep it running full time on one of us.  The charge lasts through both of us doing legs, arms each.   Like rapamycin's benefit its hard to measure unless you track % muscle, strength.  We have a cheap scale with BMI/muscle %.  At 71, carnivore we just want to KEEP muscle.  For me;  without going to the gym.  :>   One could spend 8 hrs a day doing everything we are supposed to.   So I do PEMF, Kaatsu, AND hyperbaric at the same time.  Just 1 hr.  Prior; I do vibration plate standing infront of a decent sized LED panel array.  Its all to get more done in less time..   Then, down my vitamin (etc) smoothie (love my blendjet) inject Peptides, then I can do my days work.  OOf!

    Good luck.
