Too....much....information!!!
Where to start?
I am a 45 year old male and former athlete. I just bought Sinclair's book which I will start noodling through.
I am going to install a Sauna (not sure what type to get with regards to IR, brand, or standard electric) in the basement along with a cold tank.
I currently do some time restricted eating as well as a modified Keto (carb restriction). I am having problems in the gym on Keto so I am trying to figure that out. Maybe go with low car (less than 100 carbs) and zero on the refined end of things. I know that Keto works well for endurance athletes, but I struggle during lifts with Keto.
The data on NAD, Metformin, Reversatrol, Nnm, etc. is all over the place. Some say it works, some not.
I realize that this is an evolving science, but is there any way to measure the effectiveness of these things.
What should I be doing to get a baseline here?
Thank you.

Do a little of everything. Start with things that you can do, not things that you can take.
Things like Intermittent fasting. High intensity Intermittent exercises.
Real whole foods diet.
Lots and lots of vegetables and fruits everyday.
Small things that are not at all controversial and very well established to improve health.
Remember, lifespan is related to healthspan.

What is "HOMA-IR"?
Thank you for the follow up. I will keep up with the vitamins, low-carb eating, and fasting.
I was hoping maybe look at some testosterone replacement therapy or GH therapies as a quick bump to reset the clock to a slightly younger age.
The stuff about Reversatrol, NMN, and Metformin is interesting, but there seems to be split opinions on that stuff. -
TJTJ.. Homeostasis Modal Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR). It is a formula based on your insulin and blood glucose levels. It is a much better assessment of Insulin resistance than the plain old, outdated blood glucose tests that doctors still routinely do. If you just monitor blood glucose (BS), that really tells you nothing. You could have "normal" BS but your pancreas might be pumping out gobs of insulin to maintain that level. If so, you are headed for Diabetes when your pancreas finally burns out.
As for "low carb". If you say you are having trouble with work outs and you might lower your carbs to 100 then you are NOT doing low carb. Although there is no legal definition it is generally understood that low carb means eating no more than 30 to 50 carbs per day. What you need to do is maintain low carb (approx 30 carbs per day and no moer than 50) for at least 3 weeks. This is the rough time period that your body needs to becomes "Keto-adapted". This means that at some point your body will preferentially burn fat instead of glucose. Once that conversion occurs you will have tons of energy. Read up on the works of Volek and Phinney. They have decades of studies on the subject.

Randy B,
Thank you. Any recommendations on where to obtain such a test? I feel like that if I were to talk to a primary care about that, they would look at me like I had 3 heads.
Same question with regards to the genetics testing and the telomeres testing.
I am going to keep working out and keep on the low carb diet. I am less than 50 a day at this point would be my guess, but I will admit to not food logging as accurately as I need too. Hopefully some fasted cardio can burn off some more of those stored glycogen and get me in Ketosis once and for all.
If you are telling me that once I am deep in it, my workouts (i.e. weights) won't be that negatively impacted...I am all in.
I would like to go to some sort of anti-aging clinic to get on a more diligent regimen. I will hopefully have the sauna and cold tank in the basement in the next month or two. That is my goal.
Recommendations on Saunas? I was going to go with the full spectrum IR.
Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. -
Anyone have any comment on free testosterone levels on low carb?
