Alpha Lipoic Acid and Acetyl L Carnitine

Hi, just a quick question: I have an older family member who has difficulties taking anything more than once per day (he forgets) and usually takes his supplements with his daily breakfast meal. I really want to put him on 600 mg ALA and 1000 mg ALCAR but, for compliance sake, he would need to take the full dose in the morning with his meal, no split. (He won't take anything on an empty stomach either). Would this be an issue?

  • It would be better 750 from ALC. My mother was nervous about more than 750. And adding acetylcysteine + glycine (may be the best antiaging)

Juan Martínez Moreno Thanks for your reply. He's already taking NAC. I will look into glycine. I will start him out on 300 mg ALA and 500 ALCAR with food morning and see how he tolerates it and go from there..

By the way, why was your mother nervous about taking more than 750 ALCAR?

  • ALC has antidepressant effects and increases neurotransmitters, which may be why some people find it nervous or cause insomnia. But others take up to 3,000 mg a day with no problem. Every body is different. I consider CLA+ALA an excellent antiaging supplement, especially useful for the elderly brain.

I didn't see your reply earlier. Sorry and thanks for clarifying.

When you said "nervous" initially I though you meant that she was worried about taking more but now I see what you meant. She just felt more nervous or maybe jittery after taking more than 750.

When you said that you consider CLA+ALA excellent for anti-aging, do you mean CLA as in Conjugated Linoleic Acid?

CLA was an automatic translator error. I meant to say acetyl carnitine. My favorite antiaging supplement is NAC+Glycine (or another glutathione precursor), vitamin d+k2 and melatonin.
