Do doctors prescribe rapamycin to people in their 20s?

I'm looking to experiment with Rapamycin.  Does anyone have experience with getting it in their 20s?

  • No real need to start in your 20s... in the clinical studies the life extension in mice was not that different if rapamycin was started earlier in life vs. mid or later.  So - avoid the cost and hassle.  Wait until you are at least 35 or 40.

    • Brin Chikovski I'd add to this that we don't really know *what* the optimal time for a human would be to reduce mTOR. Certainly post puberty - but it's entirely possible there are good reasons for starting younger - such as early onset of hereditary diseases, such as types of dementia.

One aspect, as a younger male, that I'm going to pay attention to is fertility.

It seems with chronic administration, as seen in transplant patients, that sperm quality decreases. For example see this paper:
      https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1600-6143.2008.02267.x

There are similar results in rodents too.

It may be possible to work around this by cycling on and off, such as 8 weeks on 5 off, or similar. Also, stopping taking when trying to have kids. But of course, this isn't researched or tested yet, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt please.

    • John True - nobody knows yet.  Yes - there have been testicular shrinkage issues with rapamycin at regular organ rejection levels - and sperm quality - so there are risks to taking rapamycin when you're younger.  Everyone has a different risk/reward tradeoff profile - but for me, given the lack of clinical trials in anti-aging applications with rapamycin it seems to only make sense after age 40.  Others may reasonably have a different opinion. This quote is from the Peter Attia Podcast interview with Richard Miller of the ITP/NIH.

I am 31 (female) I just started Rapamycin 3mg every 7 days. Planning to increase to 4mg.
Also I take metformin 1000mg/day. Both without rx. I doubt doctors would give prescription for younger ppl like me

    • Arizona Kid I'm OP and 24 and male.  I got some from India and took it once a week for a month.  No side effects.  I felt great while taking (euphoric the days I took it).  My last dose was 2-3 months ago and I feel like my metabolism has permanently changed due to taking the drug.  I don't mean my weight (I've always had the tendency to be skinnier than most), and it's hard to explain, but I feel like there's more autophagy now when I go to bed.

I also tasted a metallic taste in my mouth when I was taking it.  I've never done keto, but I think it probably got me in ketosis.

All together, great experience for me.  I probably will cycle some for a week or two a few times a year.  I may even use it my lifting routine when I want to cut (though I never really cut because I don't put on weight).

    • rapalogical did it make you feel better the whole month? How did it change your metabolism, and why would it put you into ketosis?
