Hey  FitnessDude , thanks for saying hello! I'm in southeast Tennessee myself!

I just joined a CrossFit gym for the first time a few months ago, and I really enjoy it (although the workouts take a little longer to recover from).

What kind of fitness activities are you involved in?

    • Maximus Hey Maximus! I checked out a CrossFit gym in Corbin KY recently, but decided to hold off on that. I go to the gym and run 5Ks. There's one coming up on Feb 10 in Victor Ash Park.

FitnessDude That sounds great! 5K seems like a good distance to train for; not too short, and not too long.

    • Maximus yes, 5ks are just right for me right now. Is CrossFit training safe, Maximus? The Olympic Lifts being done in sets and rapidly gave me cause for concern, as well as the rope climbing. I do like the intensity, diversity, and emphasis on a high fitness level.

FitnessDude I think CrossFit training is safe, especially if you have a mindful coach.

The olympic lifts are done carefully at my CrossFit gym: if they are heavy, you only do a few reps, then rest. You don't do them quickly.

Occasionally we will do something like faster cleans for higher reps, but these are at much lower weight to account for the complexity of the movement.

I like the rope climbing, personally, but we also rarely do them. I wonder if that's because not many people can do them. If you can't do them, they just give you something else to do which works similar muscles (like pull-ups or rows).

Overall, I like it very much. I am confident their metabolic conditioning workouts (called "metcons") after the heavy weight lifting are terrific for improving cardiovascular fitness.

    • Maximus hey Maximus. I hope all is well. Getting older without getting old is awesome, isn't it? What supplements, if any, do you take? I take Life Extension Mix., among others. I'm also a big fan of the Nutribullet. Have a great day.

FitnessDude Thanks for the message, FitnessDude.

It does feel good to exercise regularly. I sleep better, I have more energy, my mind works more quickly, and everything seems easier.

I take many different supplements, but not strictly regularly. I take the Life Extension Mix when I'm traveling, as a way to get nutrients and other supplements without taking all of my pills and powders.

The things I take pretty regularly are cocoa powder, magnesium, zinc, Gamma E tocopherols and tocotrienols, carnosine, vitamin C, vitamin D, and CoQ10.
