DHEA and Sperm

Hi all,

I am posting on behalf of my husband who has been part of a clinical trial in order to boost his fertility. Other than low dose naltrexone, he has been put on a daily dose of 50 mg of DHEA for 6 months.

When we did a repeat test it was worse than before which I find worrying. My question is, can DHEA cause long term damage in sperm production/ testicals or is it reversible? I would be grateful for your insights as I am panicking a bit.

On a good note, he did feel great on it, but it doesn't look like it helped us with the initial issue.

    Sabrina Hello Sabrina.

I have researched DHEA to some extent, and I haven't heard of long-term damage associated with it.

Since it has been a few months since you posted, I wonder whether your husband has stopped taking it and has seen the decline reverse.

  • I would suspect something else at play not DHEA.  In any event, there would be no long term, permanent damage as a result of taking it, especially at that dose.  Research therapies involving HCG and FSH supplementation to restore fertility.  Also, if boosting testosterone if deficient.  Not sure if it is allowed here to post specific other websites but you could also search:  "Semen analysis results after adding FSH to TRT and hCG"  for some insight.

DHEA can lower LH and FSH (ferility) in high doses in some people but this is entirely temporary.

HCG as mentioned above is very effective to restore fertility and increase fertility above baseline.
